IRA Gifts

Make a Donation Through a Tax-Free IRA Gift!

Why is this important? This provision allows individuals age 70½ or older to make tax-free gifts from an IRA directly to the GMU Catholic Campus Ministry. To complete an IRA Charitable Rollover for 2021, please contact your IRA provider for exact instructions. Such gifts usually take a few weeks to transact. Please note, if the gift is intended for GMU Catholic Campus Ministry, the donation directly and solely benefits our ministry.

Recap of the IRA charitable rollover rules:

  1. The donor is age 70½ or older on the day of the gift.

  2. The donor transfers up to $100,000 directly from the donor’s IRA to a qualified charity.

  3. The gift qualifies as a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and is not subject to income taxes.

  4. This applies only to IRAs and not to other retirement plans.

  5. The donor does not receive any goods or services in return for the rollover gift.

  6. The gift needs to be made by Dec. 31, 2021, for the gift to qualify this year.

Planned Giving Through the Catholic Diocese of Arlington

We are a subset of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and not a parish, which means that all gifts go through the Chancery offices of the Diocese. However, by indicating that you wish your gift to benefit the GMU Catholic Campus Ministry, the Diocese may only use those funds to benefit our ministry, whether that be supporting operations, expanding our programs, or supporting other GMU CCM campaigns.

If you would like to make a different type of donation from the suggestions above based on your unique situation, please reach out to the Chaplain or one of the admin staff to learn about ways you can support our mission and help us grow. For more resources on the types of giving the Diocese of Arlington can help you plan to benefit CCM, a parish, or the Diocese itself. Please see the Planned Giving resources on the Catholic Diocesan of Arlington webpage.
